Background & Job Description

The British Government, through its Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), is seeking applications for the position of Driver S1 (11/25 HRE) at the British Embassy Harare.

Tasks

The role of Driver S1 is diverse and covers responsibilities in three main areas: driving, vehicle care, and administrative support.

General Driving Duties

  • Drive Embassy staff and official passengers as assigned.
  • Manage deliveries, collections, and ad-hoc driving requirements.
  • Ensure punctuality, safety, and professional conduct while on duty.
  • Assist colleagues and support other teams when required, fostering teamwork.
  • Represent the Embassy in a professional manner while driving.

Care of Vehicles

  • Maintain Embassy vehicles in a clean and serviceable condition.
  • Conduct daily vehicle checks, including tyre pressure, hydraulic fluid, oil, battery levels, and fuel.
  • Identify and report defects early to minimize risks.
  • Ensure vehicles are always roadworthy and presentable.
  • Arrange for regular servicing, maintenance, and insurance renewal.
  • Keep accurate records of vehicle usage and maintenance.

Administrative Duties

  • Prepare reports, invoices, and transport-related data for submission to the Transport Manager.
  • Assist in logistics planning, particularly during high-level visits and official missions.
  • Support the Embassy’s operational goals through transport coordination.
  • Carry out ad-hoc tasks to contribute to overall Embassy objectives.

Qualifications

Education and Certification

  • A valid driver’s licence is mandatory.
  • A Defensive Driving Qualification is required.
  • Class 2 driver’s licence is considered an advantage.

Experience

  • At least 5 years of professional driving experience in a similar role.
  • Previous experience working with an Embassy, NGO, or International Organization is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle maintenance and road safety.

Skills

  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • High level of integrity, discretion, and reliability.
  • Ability to work independently and under minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams).
