Background & Job Description
The International Rescue Committee (IRC), founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, is one of the world’s largest international humanitarian NGOs. Operating in more than 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities, IRC provides life-saving support in health, safety, education, and economic recovery for people affected by conflict and disaster.
The Senior Compliance Officer will support the Compliance Coordinator in overseeing ethics and compliance functions across the IRC Ethiopia Country Program. The role involves conducting compliance spot checks, monitoring visits, and ensuring effective follow-up on risk mitigation. It also includes training, capacity building, and promoting a culture of integrity and accountability aligned with IRC’s Code of Conduct (IRC WAY).
Tasks
- Deliver training sessions on fraud, anti-corruption, whistleblowing, and conflict-of-interest policies.
- Prepare and distribute quarterly compliance newsletters and awareness materials.
- Conduct compliance spot checks, assessments, and field visits to ensure adherence to policies and donor regulations.
- Prepare compliance reports with actionable recommendations.
- Maintain compliance trackers and follow up on risk mitigation actions.
- Support audits of IRC partners and sub-grantees.
- Archive compliance documents and reports.
- Submit weekly reports to the Compliance Coordinator.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or other related field.
- Professional certifications such as ACCA, CIA, or CPA are highly desirable.
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in compliance, audit, risk management, or related areas.
- Previous work experience in the NGO or humanitarian sector is strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to resolve audit and compliance issues.
- Strong communication, analytical, and reporting skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Fluent in written and spoken English.
